Bow under 1000$

So it looks like I may have about 1000$ coming my way, So I figured I might get myself a decent bow.

What Bows would you recommend for under 1000$?

I play German. I would say I am an intermediate player. Freshman in college level.

I live in West Michigan and have gone to the Guarneri House, and It seemed like the Coda bow was my favorite of all the bows, but that was back when I still played German, and my playing had basically just started. (holy run-on sentence)

I have a Tom Owen bow. It's handcrafted in the USA by Mr. Owen, and I like it better than anything I've played for under $1500 or so.

So, at that level you can find a maker, or you can shop around for ever trying things out, or you can get a high-end carbon bow. Two makers recommended so far, there will be more. I went the carbon way with a Gage Metropolitan, which would leave you with a fair bit of change. Carbon bows don't have the character of a hand-made wood bow... which is both a pro and a con depending on how you look at it.

+1 for the Tom Owen. He'll send you a few to try if you contact him.

Gage/Coda Metropolitan, best bow I've played under a grand. Great volume and balance, but not very colorful compared to a good pernambuco stick. My Metro is my primary spare bow, and I have a couple more pernambuco sticks worth 3x the $ I spent on the Metro - and they have hardly seen the light of day since I got the Metro. Plus, it looks really cool and comes with a nifty black case. And yes, it's a German bow.

Look at the Finale bows, too. I think (IMHO) they're the best of the carbon fiber lot for a 1/3 of the price (and I've had both the Metropolitan and the Carbow). It would be hard to find a pernambucco stick as good under $1K - although Roposo and Tom Owen are fine makers (and I have a TO bow!)

I recently bought a Codabow Infinity for 975 and love it. The tone is certainly different but great at the same time. I highly suggest you try one if you haven't already. I'm going into college as well and the durability of the carbon bow is comforting. (my last wood bow decided to break on me after a year and a half of taking great care of it) Best of luck in your search.
