Hi, I'd like to try to put together a list of double bass bow makers currently making and selling bows. Ideally it would be nice to know ballpark prices and french or german specialty (if any).

Boris Fritsch is a favorite of mine. His bows are 3500€, or perhaps $4500.
Reid Hudson and Roy Quade both sell around 5k.

Fuchs bows are now 6k from Robertsons.

Hi Paul, thanks for the info.

Am I right that Fritsch makes bows that Rabbath plays?

Being that you are in Paris, do you know anything about Jean-Luc Tauziede?

Do you know the price range for Mohr's bows?

Also, I had a good laugh at this one; check out his "4G" bow:
http://www.rodneymohr.com/bows-for-s...ern-bows/bass/

"The slide will remove exposing a 4G flash drive permanently embedded into the frog. With a USB cord, the bow can connect directly to your computer."

Seriously?

I've been eyeing bows by Armin Seebass for a while now. I know the Bass Cellar has 2 at $4500.

Yes - François has bought 4 bows from Fritsch and plays them pretty much exclusively these days.

Added a couple more. Anyone have price info on Hannings, Rubino, Pasquino, etc.?

I'm also curious about more makers (if there are any!) in the lower price range, 1k to 3k.

My Pasquino bow was $2500 three years ago. Bill Halsey is a great bow maker - his bows run around $4K - John Norwood Lee; also Milan Oubrecht in Prague; there's John Greenwood in the SF area (also $4-5K bows)

Here's one of his bows at Zach Martin's shop for $2600

There is also a bow shown (farther down the page) by Donald MacKenzie, Brewster, MA. for $2500.

John Norwood Lee's site doesn't seem to indicate that he makes bass bows, but I see that there's one of his german bows for sale at Upton for 1200. Anybody use one of his? Does he sell them in that price range?

I can't find any info on Donald MacKenzie besides the page you pointed out. Anybody know anything about him?

Send a message via AIM to Phil Rowan
Claude Marchand (available through Thomas Martin's site), which I think go for ca. $1500 (I have a Marchand French bow I've been very happy with):

Claude Marchand is not a bow maker - that is Martin's house brand of bow.

Marchand is not a real person I guess. Not to say those bows are not very nice! I'd be curious to try one.

I used one of the Marchand bows (and a Martin bass) for my show at the Berlin bass conference. I was very impressed with the bow (German, in my case). Ian and Peter (of Tom's shop) said they were made in Banbury (England)... obviously not by "George Marchand"... Andrew McGill would be my guess... but that's pure speculation on my part.
