Deformed Bow?

I have a quick question. I recently tried a Sartory copy bow made by a private maker. Sorry I don't have any pics, but I sent it back already, cause it was a bit too heavy for me. (148 Grams)
Anyway, it had a Huge Knot on the stick, just before the winding.
I have never seen this before on any other bow. Is this unique, or are there other bows made with knotted pernambuco? If so, does it weaken the stick, or strengthen it? It did feel pretty well balanced, but I was just wondering...
