Great Find! Yita Music Ebay Permabuco German Bow

I am having a difficult time putting the link up, but just wanted to rave a little about the Permabuco German bow I won in an auction on ebay for under $200. It is listed under Silver Mounted-A-Fine-Permabuco-Bass-Bow. There are several curent listings there now on ebay.

It was shipped from China on Saturday and arrived in perfect condition on Wednesday. Shipping was just a few days.

I have been looking for a nicer second bow. I have a nice Ary German bow, but I have to say that the sound of this bow is as good, if not better, than my Ary, and I just like the weight, balance, and feel of the Yita bow much better. The lows are just crisper as well and I am getting a nice, full sound.

So, if you are looking for a bow, do consider this option. There are very detailed pictures on ebay and if they are not on auction, they sell for $199 plus shipping.

The bow arrived packed very well in a solid, metal-type tube, wrapped several times. A styrofoam block was attached to the tube for shipping. I know its taking a chance buying a bow unseen, but they do have a 14-day return policy and a high rating on ebay.

i was considering one of their snakewood or carbon fiber bows just for fun.. how is the balance? does the bow grab well? can you get the string started at the tip? what's the quality of the hair like? i think i noticed that their bows are on the longer side. how do you like the length?
thanks

shwasha,

I like the balance. It balances about 1/4 in from the frog. No problem getting a clear sound starting from the tip. I find it difficult to comment on the hair because I am used to dark or salt and pepper hair, but seems different, but fine.

It is a longer bow, but I do not find that a problem, probably because it is lighter than the Ary, but still very solid.

I played it for several hours yesterday, and I am liking this bow more and more. My e string is not sounding like mud with this bow.

Hope that helps.

If you can win of the auctions for these bows where the bidding begins low, you can get a heck of a lot of bow for an insane price. I have a German Snakewood one and t's a very nice bow even without considering the ridiculously low price I got it for.

Adrian,

Glad to hear the snakewood is a very nice bow. Think I am going to be doing some more bidding in the near future.

I have just ordered one, in the last few days, then I see here a thread... wonderful.

I'll have to come back with my report on its performance. It will be when it gets here.... a german bow, #D55C, I think. 133grams, 763 mm. Pernambuco, round stick. It was $200 or so, plus 15 for shipping, about 15-18. Made by one Yin Guohua. My first wood bow oh my god!!!

My teacher tried one that the bass guitar teacher showed her, and she said it was the best value at that price. Was she for real - she's a pro...? I'll get her opinion this Monday, and then later show her mine when it comes.

It's terrible buying a bow untested, but they give 14 days to try it and give it back for a full refund. I bought just for that, and I have no wood bow and it was that cheap - not that I can afford to throw around a couple hundred dollars. But I most likely will not send it back.

Downright_Low,

Yes, its a great value. I brought it to my bass lesson this week and asked my teacher to check it out. He really thought the value of the bow was around $800. He did think it was kind of light (I like the weight for me. its just right) and thought the hair could be a little better. I am no expert on the light bow hair, so I am playing it with the stock hair. I like the bow so much I am using it for my classical university jury exam this week.

I had mine already, and, man, I don't know where that came from. You ever suck it up so bad that you don't know how it happened, and yet you maintained a perfect composure throughout?!?

Anyway, break a leg.

I can't wait for mine. I remember the bow having an intensity and of course something pernambuco in sound. Of course, I will only know how my bow is unique once I have it for a time. I wouldn't go about it like this with a more expensive bow - putting all the money down first thing. But it's more or less how anyone else would do it - except for all the money at first, before hearing it. Cut and run...? - I'm gonna catch up with them if I have to chase 'em to the far side of the globe................................:eyebr ow:

What will you play on jury?

What? I said I liked the bow very much and it is a great value. My teacher expressed his opinions. Are you on the right thread?

I like the look of this one, with the white horn frog:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/White-Horn-A-T...QQcmdZViewItem

They had a French bow constructed the same way. Any idea how the horn would affect the sound or balance? what about durability? seems like horn might be brittle.

i just got one of the carbon fiber bows. i kind of like it. i was going to sell it here, because it's not as good as my reid hudson, therefore i was afraid that i'd never play it, but i recently got it rehaired and that made a big difference. the balance was fine, but not exactly what i'm used to, so for that i was going to sell it again, but i tried taping a penny to the tip, and that has made it more to my liking, so i may end up keeping it after all. for the price you really cant go wrong. who knows, maybe you'll see mine in the classifieds soon, or maybe i'll keep it as an indestructable bow for gigs where i wouldnt want to bring my good one. i once borrowed the david gage carbon bow, and that bow is better than this one, but not by much (his bows are probably made in china too, but that's pure speculation).

edit: all of my above comments were on playability, none on tone.... the tone that this bow draws is pretty good. not harsh at all like i expected of a carbon bow.

I have one of the carbon fiber bows. It feels great, but the hair isn`t good. German style.

I bought one off ebay and after 3 weeks it still hadn`t showed, so I complained and they sent me another which made it to my door in 5 days. Then a couple of days later the first one finally arrived.

So, if someone is interested, maybe we could work it out so that instead of shipping it back to Shang Hai, I could ship this one straight to a US buyer and save some shipping cost. I haven`t even taken the bow out of it`s packing.

I already posted that I got a great German Snakewood bow from yitamusic for about $200. Well a few weeks ago I got a great Baroque-style Snakewood bow. Price? $120. Great bow. Not super but for the money it's insane... Just look out for those auctions with the low starting bids. They do them occasionally.

There's a Brazilwood German bow from Yita music for around $50 but it now... Do you guys think it'll be any good?

I am in the process of getting my Permabuco bow rehaired. Also, the wire wrap came loose and has to be redone. Looking forward to hearing how the rehaired bow sounds.

Maybe not as good as the $200 dollar one.
