Hair Life

I got a rehair back in June, and already the hair is pretty dead. More and more is breaking everyday and it is not holding rosin well. Should I expect hair to die this quickly. Granted, I've been practicing/rehearsing 4-7 hours a day since the end of August. Really, I'm wondering how long it takes people who also are playing constantly to kill a set a high-quality hair. Thanks for any replies.

I like to rehair about once every 6 months.

I also don't play arco that often, but I try to rehair once a year. 4-7 hours a day for the last six months is a lot of play time (to me). Get it in for a rehair.

If you play as much as you say you do, then optimally you would get a rehair every three months. However, it's more likely to be completely necessary after six months.

To get the best results, make sure your bow person has high quality hair that is meant for bassists. If they use the same hair for you that they put on violin bows, find another shop.

I have a guy who gets good fresh hair, and I shoot for every year. More often would be preferable, but what can I say, I'm lazy! Also, I have a few different bows and I forget which was rehaired when. I think my bow guy knows my bows better than I do, lol...
