How much does your bow weigh?

Just thought this would be an interesting thread -I didn't find anything like this when I searched.
Mine weighs 143 grams.

Mines a french bow, 131 grams, plus a 5g latex bow grip. Its a pretty good weight, I might go a touch lighter on the next bow.

Yeah, I've currently got several bows on trial and have an unmarked bow that weighs 117g(!) and it is a french as well as the one that I believe I will be purchasing (the Chetson Olsen) is the 143 grammer.

The carbon bow I just got weighs 134 gms and the brazilwood bow I just sold was 138gms. Both are German frog. The carbon bow feels heavier because of more tip weight.

My Prochownik German bow is 123 grams. It's the most agile, articulate bow I've ever played with.

I'm using a terrible bow at the moment, I hope to replace it soon. It's unnamed, and 106g.

auch, way too light... think mine is about 142 grams (french) but quite long... next one will be shorter and perhaps even heavier... let gravity do the work for you

Well thats a bit of a debatable point. Personally I feel the weight of the bow influences the overall feel and response, eg I like a light bouncy bow. How much pressure you can apply is more down to you arm, it weighs far more than any bow does. Then your grip affects how much torque you can translate onto the strings as bow pressure.

......but wow Jordan, 106 gram ? What is it made of, and is it a fractional size?

Umm... I'm not sure what it's made of. It's a much lighter-coloured wood, with a clear finish, not tinted. I inherited it from my father, except the stick was cracked. My luthier found a spare stick in his workshop, so he gave it to me. It's still the original frog. As far as I know it's a full-size bow.

I don't think I would mind a bow about 140g.

I'm thinking around 145g is the magic number

My Reid Hudson is 136g. I also have an awful (I suppose awful is relative) pernambuco bow by Klaus Becker that is 134g but much longer. While I think 106g is pretty extreme, I don't think there is anything wrong with a lighter bow.

Mine's at 137g now. It'll probably me closer to 140g soon, I'm going to use weighted tape to play with the balance. We'll see. I wouldn't mind if it were a little heavier...

Mine, I bought today. D. Muniz. 134.5g. I am really happy with it. Bought it at Guarneri House in Grand Rapids. What a big help they were in the process.

The Muniz I mentioned trying in your other thread was from there, a month or two ago...I wonder if it's the same bow.

My French bow is 149g(snakewood). It is quite heavy, but it also grabs the string well.
