Kolophonium

I didn't have time to get to the violin store this weekend so I bought a cake of Kolophonium in haste at the local store. I nearly started a fire getting that stuff on the bow and it still won't grab the string. If this is a case of the cake being too old, I'm going to ask for my && back. If it's just lousy rosin, I'll probably still ask for my $$ but I'd like to know.

(I did find some negative Kolophonium comments in one thread)

It is the worst rosin I have ever seen. The worst.

I'm glad Don and Mike know what you're talking about. In French, rosin is translates to "colophane", and i think it's "kolophonium" in German... so kolophonium is a brand name ?

I've never seen the word "kolophonium" used on any commonly sold label than Petz, which is what I assume kwd is referring to. I had a cake of Petz in high school, which my teacher made me throw away.

Cute bear, though:

It is, and the stuff that I used to put on my violin bow worked just fine. Never used Petz though.
