I am about to start playing double bass, so anyways, i have a choice between to rosins, either the Kolstein All weather rosin, or the Kolstein Soft rosin. Can you please give me the pros and the cons of each rosin ? and what kind of tone they produce ?
PS: I am from Kuwait and its pretty hot most of the year, but i will be playing the bass in air condition, so if that helps...
Thank you

My son just got some, took it out of the thick aluminum foil wrap (which just tears off and is unusable as a container), put it back into the paper container, and it promptly stuck to the paper. This one's lost, but is there a better way to store it?
Pops has nice plastic containers that the rosin can flow around in and still get the cake out. Welcome your thoughts.

Jim | Keep it in the Fridge! I have used both the all weather and the Soft. I live in Pa. Quite cold in the winter and very hot in the summer. We have 4 seasons. I find that the all weather hardens more in the winter and softens more in the summer. If it is not too humid like I prefer the soft. I don't play outside hardly ever so I always have AC. Actually, I can live with either of the two.
For the rest of you responding to the first post, Stingrayz has a choice of Soft or All Weather with an upcomming purchase. That's all that is offered to him at this time so please keep your answers to those two grades of Rosin. |

I am leaning towards the soft rosin as i am gonna play it in air conditioned situations, but it would be nice if i can get the pros and cons of both rosins, (textures: Sticky or smooth, or the sound they produce)
Thank you |

I have a small piece left from my last Soft Kolstein Rosin right here in my house on my stand. It's only about 1/4" tall now as it's almost all gone. I have another cake opened up in the office for practicing and on warm days I throw it back in the fridge as well. My son has a cake of the all weather that melts just about as much when warm but hardened up a bit after its first winter. That was my Rosin as well b4 he got back into the DB a few years ago so I let him roll with that cake. It's at least 4 years old as he was much less active with the Bow then I was up until this year at school. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
