yeah I've tried the lower priced bows and thought they were fair for that price range but don't own one

I bought a durrschmidt instead at the time because it was a little longer (and therefore for the same price a better bargain *LOL*)

Nickel-mounted bows are marked “W. Seifert”; silver-mounted bows are marked “Lothar Seifert." There are also apparently "Meisterwerk" bows.

I own a "Lothar Seifert," which was originally owned, I believe, by Paul Ellison, and before me by my first teacher. It is an excellent bow. My bow could use a little more bounce, but that probably has more to do with the need for a recamber. No reason that one couldn't audition with this bow.

I have not played anyone else's bow in probably 8 years, so I can't really make a fair comparison.

it's an octagon German Lothar Seifert. It is lighter than about anything else I've played but i don't know the exact weight or length, sorry.

I have had two great Lothar Seifert french bows and they were both great quality bows for the money IMHO.

I have a Lothar Seifert german octagonal bow. I love the sound, but it's a bit on the heavy side. I can be more nimble with my Durrschmidt, but it has a way smaller tone to it. I have played other Durrschmidts that sounded better. I'm still searching for my dream bow.

All bows must be tried to be evaluated. There is no maker whose bows always strike a chord (sorry) with everyone. I've played on Kolsteins I hated and one that knocked me out. Same with W. Seifert. Each one is different.

I played on a Lothar Seifert german bow for a few years. It was an octagonal bow, but I am not sure of the weight. It was the first good bow I ever played on. It was good for playing on the string but not that great for spicato, especially heavy spicato.
