Looking for a new student Bow! (French)

Hi everyone,

I am a high school double bass player and I play in my school's orchestra. I am looking for a new french bow because the ones at my school just don't cut it (they're cheap). I'm not looking to spend much at the moment because I'm more focused on pizz as of now(I'm also in the jazz band), but I'm getting to know the bow much better now. Can anyone recommend me a good and reliable bow? (100-200$) range.

I checked out Upton's bows and Bob Gollihur's Brazilian bows.

Thanks in advance,
JC

Hey there,
I'm selling my old French bow. I was asking $950 for it, but I'll cut that back if you're interested in it. It's listed in the TalkBass classifieds forum:

^ That's a nice looking bow man. I'd love to if I had the funds. I'm only 16 haha. Good luck on the sale though.

Yeah, it's a nice bow. Like I said, I would be willing to drop the price (though not to the $100-200 range) if you're interested.

Good luck with the bow search!

I ended up finding the bow I'm using now pretty much by chance. I just e-mailed a bassist I know in the Boston Symphony, and it just so happened that another BSO bassist was selling his bow, so I ended up buying it! Keep your eyes open; you never know what you'll find!

I have a friend's upton bow(french), barely used. he wanted me to sell it for him last time I asked him. I have to confirm w/ him.

pm me if interested (jcuesta only please)
if jcuesta's not interested, I'll post it on the classifieds soon.

If your budget is up to $200, you should also consider the ksb bows. I hear that they are good.

^ Wow, those look very nice. I do notice that most of the bows in my price range are brazillian wood and all 3 from the makers have some similarities. Now I just have to decide which to get!
