Loose Hair

I have black hair, and I enjoy playing with the hair quite loose to the stick. I've found that by having the hair quite loose I get a lot more tone. My question is, is there a type of rosin that caters best towards looser hair grippy playing?

Probably Carlssons or Oak soft. Don't put it on while the hair is loose though, or you'll rip it out of the Bow!

How loose is 'quite loose'? Maybe I am overtightening, but it seems that I get the ice skate effect lately, and I use Pops.

The hair should almost touch the stick when you put a FF amount of pressure on the bow. Maybe you're using too much rosin? That happened a lot with the bows in high school because people used way too much rosin.

What is the 'proper' tightness of bow hair, anyway?

ShostK has it right, The bow needs to have enough flex to bounce
on the string. Otherwise you may get the 'skating' effect mentioned before. That is one reason for the camber, so it can transmit the weight of your arm to the string.

The looser the hair the more rosin you will need to apply. I'm a fan of soft oak. Kolstein soft is good too but I don't like it as much as oak.

What do you guys think of the Carlsson rosin? My bow's coming back from a rehair in a few days and I'm thinking of trying it. I haven't really used anything but Pop's before.

I used Carlssons for years and years Before I switched to Oak.
It is not as grippy as Pop's, some may say a little waxier, but you don't get the chain-saw sound that you get with Pop's, IMO. But Oak soft is similar to pop's, but doesn't powder up as much, and doesn't get stuck to the string like Pop's. The Medium is more like Carlsson's, but it lasts longer on the hair.
Also the Place that you live can have a big impact on the rosin you choose. If your profile was filled out, I would have a better idea of what to tell you.
