Loose wrapping

The "whalebone" wrapping of my bow is loose. I was thinking of just taking it off. I was wondering if any of you have done the same and does it effect the balance and/or bounce of the bow.

For a german bow the wrapping is just to add weight or for show. If you take it off it's about 80-120 bucks for a new one keep in mind.

But yes, it can affect the balance of the bow.

i would take it off. sure the wrapping has an influence on the balance, but i think you can neglect this in case of the whalebone. (take it of and weigh it)
if it was metal wire i would think twice.

i lost the wrapping on several bows (whalebone and silver wrapping) and did not feel a difference

some of the best bows i ever played (h.r. pfretzschner, german model) had no wrapping or leather at all
