Morizot Authenticity

Hello,

I am in the process of buying a new bow and I would like to know if there is any way to tell if this bow I'm looking at is the real thing and not a fake.

One thing that I noticed is that the name "L. Morizot" is stamped on the stick upside down (while looking at the bow with the bottom of the frog facing the floor)

If anybody could give me any info at all, it would be greatly appreciated.

Patrick

Bows by French makers are typically stamped "upside down".

The only way to have a some certainty that the bow is authentic is to have a good bowmaker/repairperson look at it and give you their opinion.

Is there a reason that you're skeptical about its authenticity?

If it's real, it would be authenticated before selling, and the price would reflect the authenticity. If it weren't authenticated, I wouldn't buy it. Especially if it were sold on Ebay with the description "Stamped" blah blah blah. There's a group of sellers (or perhaps the same guy) that sell replicas and call them "Stapmed."

If there's any doubt, either have it authenticated, make sure it already is by a reputable source, or don't buy it.

It was just a warning from my teacher. The bow to me does seem to be of fine quality and everything.

I recently bought a "Morizot" bow on ebay. I'm about 98% sure that it's a fake. However, it's still the nicest bow I own. I say if the price is right (I payed around $60...that was the first clue) and it sounds a plays well, it wouldn't do you any harm to get it. At worst, it'd make a good backup when you're able to get a real fine bow. Just my 3¢...

Right. If the price is much less than $3000 then there is pretty much no way what you're buying is an authentic Morizot.

$60.... something tells me probably not.

Can't a guy hold out for that ever-so slight possibility that he got something great for dirt cheap? Aww...who am I kidding? I'll go weep over my fake Morizot bow and yell at the heavens for deceiving me...
