My teacher introduced me to Oak. It's great stuff, way better than the Carlssons I was using up until September. I'm using Soft Plus. I'm no pro- my teacher seems to be able to get it on my hair much better than I can, but when I put it on it doesn't have enough stickiness. I probably just need to learn to apply it better, but it could be the weather, given my location.

My teacher and another student of his both use the box instead of the leather wrap. We've all found that the wrap will eventually deform the cake and stick to it. When it's opened, the top layers of the wrap will peel off, coating the rosin in leather and rendering the cake almost unusable. I would use the box as well except that my cake is so deformed that it no longer fits in- I use a ziplock bag.

The soft plus is awesome stuff. Make sure you apply firm pressure and draw long swipes along an edge of the rosin. I'm finding it to be the most versatile rosin I've used so far. Extra swipes make the bow plenty sticky for orchestra, and it wears off quickly and cleanly enough that I can do solo work work with the same bow.
