Obscure Rosins

I was just wondering if anyone here uses green tartini, jade, or pirastro bass rosin. I use kolstein soft and pops now, but i am quite intrigued by these products.

I use Jade Solo rosin when Im doing concerti as a soloist. In my experience it is great for fast bowing response and articulation. Sometimes it grips the string too tightly and prevents the string from starting (happened to me once while I was performing the Bottessini concerto lol) but with a little practise you soon get a feel for it and it wont happen. Just make sure you dont over apply it as its grip is incredible!

Ditto on the Jade rosin, which I like very much for my prochownik bow, which is a very light bow. A little goes a long way.

Belmor

I wanted to try something smoother than Pop's and dropped by Musicians' Supply Shop in West LA. They sold me a cake of Belmor Velvet, saying it was made by a guy who retired from the LA Philharmonic. I'm digging it and was surprised to have never seen it mentioned here (and very little is to be found Googling it). Has anyone else used this stuff? What did you think?

Thumbs up Jade

Thanks Ashley and Louis for the Jade heads up. I just got a cake of it and so far I really like it.

Cool

I use the Pirastro Medium Rosin. It's a good summer rosin, but this cold weather makes grip a bit of an issue. It gives great tone but at the cost of a little volume. Does anyone know of a good rosin in between the Jade and Pirastro?

I tried the green tartini rosin before. I thought it was pretty terrible for bass, but I was half expecting that since the rosin was actually made for cello(the container has bass written in paranthesis). It was incredibly powdery and had a nasal sound on all the strings.
