Robertson violins is the sole distributer of Fuchs bows in the U.S, or So I was told. I just bought a Fuchs, and words cannot describe the perfection that is that bow.

Peter, is there any way to try one out if you're not around Robertson? I'm interested in trying one of his bows because I think I'll be looking for something around the late summer.

Wow Peter! That's some endorsement. How long have you had it? Do you know if there are/were any stock of his German bows at Robertson's when you purchased?

Yes, I saw those. Can they be for real or even the same maker at all? I've seen not great pictures on the web of his violin & cello bows and they seem to have his fuller name stamped on them.
Not just P. Fuchs.

Yea I know what you mean. The bow I got was a very good one and plays well. The quality of the wood is very high. I cannot comment on the others.

I saw Fuchs at a Violin makers convention, his bows are very well made, and not much like the Ebay bow at all. It was a competition, so the bows were pretty ornate, maybe you could get a simpler one a little cheaper. If Robertson's has some, and I think they are the sole distributor, then they would mail you some on approval. I would expect them to be somewhere near $3k in price. I think he got a medal at the competition, and that pumps the prices up a little.

I haven't played any of his german bows, so I can't comment on how they feel. My bow was around 4500, and I consider it a bargain. It is balanced perfectly, the wood is unbelievable, and it is an octagonal sick at the frog, then fades into a round stick, which I thought was really cool and showed the skill of the Maker.

Anyone know of any pictures of his German (or French for that matter) other than the ebay ones?

Not a specialist, but I think that "bow blanks" in general are octagonal before more wood is removed to obtain a round stick, except at the frog were it stays octagonal. Most bows I've seen, from crappy to top notch, are octagonal at the frog and fade into a round stick. So I was very surprised to read the above quote because it is very general and do not say anything that would specifically qualify the particular bows you're talking about.

Thanks
