Removing rosin from body?

I know...I neglected my bass for a long time...

There is a gritty layer of rosin on the front and treble side of my bass...is there any cleaning solution or technique to get it off?

I have started wiping the bass off after every playing session now.

Kolstein makes a cleaner that I've used on my bass to remove rosin, oil from hands, etc. I know Lemur sells it, and I'm sure that others carry it or similar things. Check it out here: http://www2.mailordercentral.com/lem...ts.asp?dept=48

I had that on my bridge , took a windsheild ice scraper to it (plastic). No Damage Actually!

I don't know if it is practical, tradition or just superstition, but I have heard more than once that convention is to leave the rosin on the bridge. That is, don't clean it.

I think the original belief was that it gave you a darker sound,
but in reality a heavy buildup will just muffle the vibration
of the bridge.the Kolstein cleaner does a great job getting the grit off. I use #ooo grade steel wool as opposed to those scrubby pads.

Have I been gone that long? The bloom of the newlywed must have worn off. How's life reedo?

Oh, BTW all you need is toluene to clean rosin off of your bass. That is the primary ingedient in Kolstein's cleaner. Available at your local hardware store.

I have found Carbosol to do wonders with cleaning rosin. But with any solvent, test on an inconspicuous area before applying to the whole body. I know several bassists who have learned that the hard way...

Also, ventilation and/or respirators are good ideas when using this kind of agent. Bass players don't have that many spare brain cells to lose...

Of course I kind of like my "gilded" bridge.
