Which Rosin?

Hi, my nephew is a double bass player and plays Jazz music, he is in his third year of study and has a big gig coming up soon.

basically he is broke(student) and was telling me he needs new rosin as the stuff he has was cheap and was terrible. i want to get him some good rosin but have no idea whats what as i dont play or know anything about instruments tbh.

he uses nylon strings and said the rosin he has isnt sticky enough so it screatches when he uses the bow.

he said a good rosin is more sticky and holds the hairs together more and stops the screaching, iv no idea if this is right so.

im located in ireland and am looking for a good rosin for a bow to use with nylon strings. if someone could tell me a good brand or type of rosin that would be good for what my nephew needs and posibly somewhere in ireland i could buy it maybe id be very greatful.

Thanks, Eoin

Pops Rosin is the standard. It is cheap, sticky, and readily available.

Pops is probably fine, it's as sticky as it gets anyway. I'd order from www.bassrosin.com instead of musicians friend, though.

i've had a terrible time with pops in the winter here in massachusetts. I personally would suggest Carlsson,
but in all reality any FRESH bass rosin of pops quality or better would be fine.

Fresh is the MOST important part!
