String Emporium Pernambuco Bows

Hello!

Has anyone tried the String Emporium pernambuco bows that they offer for $950? I can't find any reviews online.

For anyone who has tried one- how is the weight? 130 g seems very light if you're playing in orchestra.

The String Emporium can send the bow out to you for a home trial if you want to try it out yourself.

130 g is on the lighter side for a bow. Of course it depends on the bow, but lighter bows can still be pretty powerful for orchestral playing. My Marco Raposo bow is 135 g, and comparing it to my teacher's 160g Don Smith bow, I actually thought that my Raposo was much better for orchestral playing. In my opinion, lighter bows can be more manageable and easier to use, especially for hard orchestral passages where your right arm is really having to work. But, I also tried an extremely light bow around 125 g, and it really couldnt cut it for orchestral playing. These factors range from bow to bow, and person to person.

I would try the String Emporium bow out if you want to get a home trial and see for yourself.

i took one of these bows on trial and was truly amazed at the difference between my Gage Metropolitan and this well-made octagonal pernambuco bow. i was astonished at how much better my bass sounded! i took the decision to buy it immediately. Steve definitely did right by me when he said i would like it.

i can't stop raving about this bow! it makes my bowing sound soooo gooooood! of course, i have a loooong way to go, too. but it certainly makes it a pleasure to keep practicing.

i can only say that after comparing this bow with three other comparably priced pernambuco bows, it was just incomparable in sound to the others. what a difference a bow makes!

bow matters

i really didn't know this until recently, but i can confirm it:

"For music purposes the bow is more important than the instrument."

I just got the String Emporium German bow, and it is good. It's lively and well-balanced, and has a very nice sound. It is light but pulls a big sound; it compares very favorably with the Pfretzchners I have played.

Just fyi: I got one of their $130 brazilwood bows to use on touring show and it's absolutely fine; well balanced, light etc; If their pernabucco bows are as good (relatively speaking) they sound like a steal,
