Tightened Screw with latex grip

So like many other people, I've had discomfort from holding the french bow and so I ordered one of the latex grips from George Vance's website. After putting the grip on, I have to tighten the screw much more than normal to get the hair at the point where I feel it is going to pick up the strings well.

Is it normal to have to tighten the screw with the grip on the bow much more than when the bow was without the grip?

Are you sure that you are tightening more, or that it is just more difficult to tighten? The grip is going to provide more resistance, making it more difficult to tighten, but it shouldn't affect the tension of the hair.
