I found each of them to be wonderful, with the cheapest Muniz pulling a great deep sound from my bass, the Otoni and Gotz sounding great but with a more "balanced" sound. The Otoni and Gotz were eminently playable as well--they made me sound like I did back when I actually studied with the bow.
Gotz appears to have a solid reputation, but does anyone have thoughts on the Muniz or Otoni (supposedly both Brazilian)? |
I don't know Muniz or Otoni, but after trying a bunch of high end bows recently, Kolstein, Reid Hudson, Moenig (all German BTW in the $2,000 -$3,000 range) I've realized that my 3 star Gotz that I've had for 20 years is pretty good. But I didn't realize that they were going for that much these days. I bought mine back in '86 for $500.
I have tried a Roposo (Brazilian maker) that was priced at $2,000 that I liked very much. However, this may have been priced very high because I've never heard of another for more than $1,000 or so.
