I play french, german and baroque so I always carry those around. I also have several bows that I have prepared for use mainly in free improvisation as the create sounds and textures that you would otherwise be unable to get.

I see, I still try to manage with one.
I bet you get interesting sounds out of those bows.
Where can I see you play Ash?

Does anyone know if Kolstein (or anyone else) makes a German and French double bag? I'm looking for one because I'll be owning (and using, in all likelihood) both. The problem is that the double bags all seem to be French/French and German/German, but no French/German.

The two bow case made by Concord (yes, the Christopher guys) will work for you. It's nice in that the pocket is made so you can do two French, zwei Deutsche or one of each.

Wonderful! Thanks dude, I'll eventually pick one up...after my French is serviceable...and I own a German of my own! One step at a time, though.

And then there is the day when you've taken the bow out of the pocket, laid it carefully on a table,- you are wrestling the bass from its bag and whoooosh! An innocent passerby sweeps the bow off the table and it lands tip first on a tile floor.

So I ordered a two bow case (not to mention a spare bow) yesterday from (imagine this) Gollihur Music. I will no doubt be using that second bow while the first one is having the bone tip and liner reglued and being rehaired. The case looks and sounds quite similar to the one at the Contrabasse Shoppe. The price looks much better, given the current exchange rates. The bow pocket on my Reunion Blues Bag expands to 4.5"x5" so it has a good chance of just gliding in there.

The two-bow case from Gollihur Music arrived 2 days ago with my new (spare) bow. It is in fact the Concord case. The box is 3/8" plywood, plush lined, with shaped frog cushion that accepts french or german frogs, a tip cushion, and a plush covered hinged panel separating the two compartments. The box is covered first with black tolex like vinyl and then fitted into a tight zippered nylon bag. It has a small pouch to store the shoulder strap or rosin. It will fit into the Reunion Blues Bass bag pocket, but is a little long and keeps the velcro top from closing.

All in all, this is probably as compact and sturdy a case as is practical.

Yeah the whole bow case thing is a real pain. I have a double French from Lemur and it only just fit into the pocket of my Mooradian bag and now my Bobelock - the case is very thick. I also got a single German off eBay and it holds one of my German bows but not the other (bow which is a standard Ary is too convex to fit in the case - really stupid - the case not the bow). I would like a double case thats either French or German and would fit in my bass bag.

While the one I have (description earlier in this thread) does not fit into the mooradian bow pocket, the bow case is not in danger of falling out, because of the slight 'v' shape of the case, it wedges in very securely. I almost like it this way becase the pocket on the bow case sticks out the top making it easier to get at. I'm a bit worried about security, especially as I have to travel 3,500km across europe by ferry and train tomorrow. yipee.

bow case

Just receive a Kolstein bow double german bow bow case,
It looks like the one at Cremonasia web site, I think it is the same.

However, I found that if you have a short bow, with deep camber, you may have problem fitting the bow into the case.
