Two bows conundrum

I have two bows, A and B.

A is a crummy old bow that was given to me. Its tip is broken off. It weighs 128 grams, and has 20.5 inches of hair.

B is an inexpensive but presumably decent bow, weighs 140 grams, and has 22 inches of hair.

Bow A is considerably more comfortable to play, as in, I get less pain in the palm of my hand, and it just seems easier to hang onto. Now, there are both the weight and length to consider, but I can't think that 10 grams and 1.5 inches would make a huge difference (though I could be wrong of course).

I noticed that the throat of the frog on Bow A is a good 1/8 inch deeper than on Bow B. I can really get my thumb into that frog.

Questions:

1. Which difference is more likely to be at the root of why Bow A is more comfortable -- the weight, or the shape of the frog?

2. Can the frog on Bow B be carved out safely?

3. Given the weight and length of Bow A, is it possibly a 1/2 size bass bow?

I have a short and light bow and like it very much. The weight of my cheaper longer bow wears me out pretty quick.

Use the one you like, get rid of the one you don't. I wouldn't try to modify your bow into something it's not.

Francis,

I infer from item 2 that you'd like to play bow B. If so, then maybe you can swap frogs.

You can remove both screws and see how frog A fits on stick B. If it fits well, without any protruding edges, all you're in for is a couple of rehairs. If it doesn't fit, just screw it back onto its stick. No damage done.

I was given a replacement frog for a bow that had a slightly defective frog. I did the rehair, but the replacement doesn't fit the stick very well. I need to get some parts to fix the original frog.
