In that case can't I just have someone make me some extra long violin strings? They're much smaller and would probably be a lot less expensive WOOHOO!

Angry Here it comes..........................................

Awright! I've had it. This is beyond crazy.
Has anybody here been any where near a section of 8 basses in a symphony orchestra? Are you aware of the amount of energy, muscle and bowing power those people put into that stuff?

I just called my lady friend, who is a fine violinist/violist. I asked her to bring over a viola bow. I'm gonna try to do this, only to come back in here and tell you guys that, at least some of you, have lost your link to sanity.

I'll be right back....

Hehe. You have shown remarkable restraint up til now, PEE. Kudos.

OP... I don't think the questions are the problem. We answer those all the time. Maybe change your screen name, to more accurately reflect your actual position in the Universe.

Ha! Make that "Mr. Boy".

Oh wait, that sounds weird.

I guess you've played some of Al's tunes? What a cool writer!

Sorry, now we're Wayyyy off topic. This will make no sense to almost anyone. Almost like PLAYING A BASS WITH A VIOLA BOW.

Yeah, he wrote a tune for me..."Burton's War". Never played it though.

SPEAKING OF A VIOLA BOW ON A BASS.......We did try it.
Bull ****!! No way, unless you wanna break the God Damn little ************* POS bow.
Yeah, I got an anemic little sound. And NO I dared not try it on my low B string.
Julia said this bow is a bit heavy for a viola bow.
She made ME stop....can you believe that ****????
NOBODY can tell ME what to do!!!!!!
Except her.....once in a while, when I don't have no NYE gig.

Is there any way to loop this thread together with the one about practicing quietly with the bow? Seems like they could solve each others problems. Maybe buy the viola bow, call it a quiet practice bow and trade it for the bass bow that's making all the rackett. Everybody would be so happy...

Isn't that kinda like what we do????? I just spent New Years eve trying to reconcile the differences between a rushing guitar player and a draging drummer. Although I was mostly unsucessful....

That's quite unusual, a dragging drummer, what did you feed him? Or did you drug him? (a drummer I play with sometimes, has the tendancy towards speeding up to double speed during a song, and no, I'm not exaggerating)

ps: how do you activate english spellcheck on this forum?

Slipping a mild sedative into the drummers drink does wonders.

As a bass player, I suggest cultivating a good "What the **** are you doing!?" glare. It is versatile and can be used on nearly any musician (except on most singers who will just reply back with their equally effective "I'm completely F***ing lost" stare).

So true!

He's a nice guy, so I won't go any further than just frowning/staring at him with a really serious face, mostly that does the trick. (combined with playing louder, hoping he will follow)

But as I'm the only beginning musician in the band (all the other play like 20 years), I'm not going to make a big fuss about it

Our singer does a great job btw, she's almost never lost (but she knows her repertoire, that helps)
