She told me I'm about 3 rehairs away from mine. I get my Prochownik rehaired about every year and a half so I'm probably after you on the list. :-)

60 and counting

I just got on the list. There are now 60+ on the waiting list. At 9-10 bows per year....

A few year ago when the line wasn't as long I had been on it for more than a year and had about another to go for a German bow by Sue. She doesn't make too many German bows, but she said she would call me to come up there to try one out the next time she made one during my wait list period. Well she called to tell me not only did she have one, but that is was for sale. Apparently she had made it for a young student who's parents had deep pockets, and when it was finished they for some reason didn't want it anymore. Well his loss was my gain and I've been the proud owner for about 3 yrs now. A beautiful and amazing stick. Definitely has improved my arco game.

I am probably just a touch under five years. I still remember the one I played (Ken Smith's Sartory reproduction, by Sue Lipkins), like an amazingly nice dream...

I just spoke with Sue, and her price is now $6000.

I agree. I look at it as a long term investment...both in my sound and and technique/skill, but also financially. I don't think the value of her bows will ever go down.

Vigneron Model

Guess what just came in the mail yesterday? A 2005 Lipkins Vigneron model, used for sale, from Duane Rosengard (via Sue Lipkins) for me to audition! Duane has another Lipkins just like it but with gold hardware, and is selling this one.

Only had an hour to try it out last night, and it is fantastic.

I got my Lipkins German bow under similar circumstances. It has been tried and praised by several top tier NYC bassists, which supports my being dumbfounded by the reason Curtis Institute gave for returning it: "It's too smooth." As a member of the New Jersey Symphony said: "I hate when that happens."
My waiting time was about 25 seconds - waiting for the elevator to her apartment.
