What are the main complaints about Petz?

I bow plain guts, sometimes with a german bow (white hair), sometimes with a short folk bow (black hair, 2x the amount of hair).

At first I used Pops, but I don't like the scratchiness. I switched to Carlsson and like that very much. But I also bought a cake of Petz (green box) just to try something different, and I actually like that rosin. It's not as scratchy as Pops, and it seems to stay on the hair longer.

I was just wondering what people don't like about it, specifically, realizing that my setup is different from the typical setup.

I just bought a cake of Petz Premium and thought it was very good. I haven't used the stuff in the green can since college, so can't help you there.

The hair--petz are always shedding hair

That and the trips to the vet.

(sorry, could not resist)

The funny thing is, I read your post completely seriously, except I read "shredding" and I nodded in agreement - Pops and Petz tend to rip out hair from my bow when used in excess.

I don't mind Petz either

I've used Petz green, Pops, and Carlsson, and even dabbled with RAO cello rosin, and some Pirastro violin rosin (with little success on the latter two). I never disliked the Petz, and found it to help new hair stick better than Pops. I also don't mind alternating Petz one week and Pops the next once the bow hair is broken in and only needs a couple light swipes. But I haven't tried Kolstein or the others mentioned. A lot has changed for strings in 20 years, so I can imagine there's probably better rosin out there now than these old formulas.
