| Sustain is overrated. You want sustain, play an electric. I just bought a set of plain guts for my bass and it's the best move I've made yet. No more of that clanky reverb and grindy tone of steels. And if you must have some sustain, the G and D have plenty. I might eventually get Oliv E and A strings just so they match up better sustain-wise than the plain guts, but I must say it's a pleasure to hear the smooth and slightly raspy tone of guts as opposed to the clanky and way too raspy tone of steels. I'll live with the bowing difficulty...I don't plan on being a classical player anyway. I just want to learn some arco to improve my technique and intonation.
