What's your rate of de-hairing?

I lose about 2-3 horse hairs off my bow a week. Is this normal? I play about 14 hours a week, probably 8 of those using the bow.

Totally depends on what you're playing.

If you're breaking hairs playing vocalise, you might have a wee tension problem.

There's a big variable in the quality of the hair. All other things being equal, your experience might be bordering excessive.

It's a very low end bow. I'll wait till its quite bald and get a new one.

The more FFFFF's the more bald the bow gets.

Good hair = less loss evem with 5F passages.

I think a good hair job shouldn't shed much at all, but I have known people who break several hairs per rehersal or performance. Don't ask me how... I'm not sure if it has more to do with the hair or the player. Personally I hardly ever break any.

I've got a Grunberer (sp?), carbon fiber bow, with a salt/pepper mix, that I've had for two years. I don't think I've lost a hair yet.

FWIW, I suck at the stick 'o pain, but I use it alot!

And I thought the thread was about how fast I am losing my own hair.
<Actually, I'm not losing any anymore, cuz it's
ALL GONE. Sx to be me sometimes.>
