Will I miss 3cm?

I am thinking of going with a Finale French bow, but they are 3cm shorter than my current bow. It will be used with an NSD EUB in a community orchestra. Unfortunately there is no place in the state stocking Finale, so trial is not an option. One other thing is that I have rather large hands, not "Shack" size, but close.
My teacher cannot help much, as there is very little inventory of bows in the area. Just want some opinions, as I know there are several available here.

Thanks.

John

Your playing a NS EUB in a comunity orchestra, and your worried about your bow???? I'm not thinking that the bow is going to be the problem, I bet you'll be used to your bow before they're used to your bass.

Actually two community orchestras, in one I am the only bassist, in the other, there is another bassist older than I am, and I hold the patent on dirt. There is no particular problem with the bass or bow, the bow will soon need to be rehaired, and I need a spare.

I say good on you for using the NS in an orchestra. I had a composer promise to write me a concerto because he was very impressed with the arco sound. Still waiting on it mind you.

Alright, so humor aside it's cool that they are ok with your playing the NS. I had a NS omnibass for awhile and thought it was pretty cool. Even subbed for a cellist on a gig with it. More power to you. As for a shorter bow, I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up. Some people prefer them that way, maybe you will too.

yeah, i've always thought that shorter bows tend to be easier to play. the finale bow is great, and not excessively short at all.
