12" vs. 15" PA setup? The saga never ends.

Well I've finally decided to just go all the way with the Geddy Lee setup with my rig. I'm lettin go of my GK and Ampeg stacks to make more room and travel lighter, but more importantly to run solely through my DI box into our PA and/or the house PA mains.
Here's my question and it's been asked a hundred times...but I really want to hear from bass players who may run their bass along with the rest of the band thru their PA.
For running vocals, keyboards, guitar, bass, and drums, what do you prefer/recommend? Here are the combinations that we are looking at...
Mackie SA1232z dual 12" 3 way speaker cabinets with 6" mid speaker and 2" tweeter horns (probably need to add subwoofer to this combo)
Mackie SA1532z dual 15" 3 way speaker cabinets with also mid and tweeter horns (could also add subwoofer, but these are really good by themselves for bass, but maybe lacking in the highs, so then the below combo)
a combination of single speaker versions of the above 2 (12" 3 ways with 15" 3 ways). Also, maybe with subwoofer to round it out.
I know a lot of you guys will instantly jump to "for bass you HAVE to have the 15 inchers to get the full bottom end". But the reason for my question is that I have heard and recently seen both 12" and 15" 3 way speaker cabinets that seem to really cover the spectrum. I also feel that 15" only setups don't grab the mid/high punchiness of not only the guitar and vocals, but even the bass!
Thanks in advance for the answers...
