Because of a week old bout with
Pleurisy I don't want to take my rig. I'm hoping to get away with taking my bass, some effects (tuner, compressor, preamp) and a DI box.
I've played this venue many times before, but always with louder bands and always with backline. Any band that I've ever seen play there has had to rely on backline because the only thing that usually goes through the PA is Vox and Kick Drum. It's a pretty simple PA and it could probably handle a lot more than what they normally throw at it. It's a board and I think one power amp and two mains...maybe some subs, but what all is hooked up and what works I don't know...I've never seen them kick it in to it's full potential. The monitors aren't the best they like to fart out so I'm going to rule out having myself very loud in those. No sidefills. They have open channels and I believe they have a snake as well
The band that I'll be playing with is a trio and there are Acoustic Guitar/Vocals, Drums played with either
hot rods, or
brushes and myself on bass. We aren't a loud band at all, so I'm hoping it is this that saves me. (see sig)
At this point I'm pretty much prepared to not be able to hear myself to well. I have a DI and an XLR cable because I'm expecting the venue to not be ready for me not having backline. Note that it is a simple passive DI box....not a Sansamp or JDI or any of the sort. I have some volume control on my pedal preamp which is an ElectroniX Submarine and the compressor which is a Boss LMB-3. I doubt the sound system has compression.
At any rate do you all have any last minute suggestions? The show is tonight at 7pm and we are opening...and by opening...I mean first band on; probably only wives and girlfriends and "sound guy" in the audience. This could easily be a glorified practice. If worse comes to worse I can always borrow someones bass amp.
