Advice on Cabling Solution

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to the vast majority of my pedals to the sends and returns on my rack-mounted Rocktron Patchmate MIDI bypass looper. I've done the math and I'm going to need a grand total of 32 1/4'' MONO TS cables to get the job done the way I need it done. I'm thinking that I'll almost definitely have to go custom here, but I'm willing to fork over a fair amount of coin for the right solution. I need right angle connections on one end and straight connections on the other. Any advice here? Thanks.

Custom snake from Redco maybe? The prices are quite reasonable.

Custom made cables with quality cable (proper insulation and good electrical properties. I´d get Mogami) in correct lengths. Quality plugs (I´d use Neutrik). Will be costly, but if you insist on quality and appreciate longevity...

I can´t recommend George L´s, because I´ve seen too many grounding problems (strange buzzing etc.) with it...

Just to be clear - are you talking about short jumpers between stomp boxes, or 32 cables from the stomp boxes back to your rack? The latter definitely will be custom.

I'm assuming you mean patch cables to go to and from each pedal from the patchmate. If so, I'd recommend a solution such as the George L's solderless system. Not the cheapest, but definitely the easiest to make a tidy, elegant system. You can cut the cable to the perfect length and just screw the jacks on.

I'm not sure how much it would set you back, but definitely worth a look. Planet waves also make solderless kits, but I'm not sure if you can buy individual jacks and lengths of cable.

I'd also recommend a cable tester if you're making up a large quantity yourself. Last thing you'll want to be doing is plugging in, then pulling out every cable to find the one that isn't working properly.
