Advice for direct to PA

Sign in to disble this ad
For the first time, I am going to run direct into my mixer this weekend. I have a Fender 400 pro series. On the back of the amp is my line out to my PA direct. My question....next to the line out there is a switch that says pre amp/ post amp. How would I want that switch.
I am running it from the bass amp to a peavey 2012 POWERED mixer.....and then to a 4080 peavey amp before going to SP3s.

I'm guessing there's no soundguy controlling the pa? If you want some control how your bass sounds through the pa: the post setting allows you to control your sound somewhat through the controls of your amp. The pre setting sends the direct sound from your bass to the pa and you have to depend fully on the pa settings. When nobody's controlling the foh sound you might prefer the post setting, only: what works for your amp and cab might not work for your pa. So if you can't find a sound that works it's wise to also try the pre setting and fiddle around to get a working, set and forget, solution.

I'll take the opposite view. I would set it to PRE. In POST mode, the signal is EQ'd in the amp's preamp, then it's going to get EQ'd again in the mixer controls. That's alot of EQing. Could really mess up the sound.
Plus, how the bass sounds on stage is often very different how it sounds FOH. I run sound for my band from the stage and use a wireless so I can walk out to the crowd to make sure levels and EQ is decent. IMHO
