amps, cabinets & ohms

I am a little confused here....

I have a Hartke HA4000 head. It is rated at 400 watts @ 4 ohms.

I have (2) Hartke 4.5XL cabinets. Each are rated at 400 watts @ 8 ohms.

The back of the head has two quarter inch speaker outputs.

My question is.....
If the (2) 4.5xl cabinets are hooked up direct to the amp how many watts will they be running at each???

Also, am I correct in thinking that the cabinets will be running at 4 ohms each? Is that safe for the amp and cabinets?

Thanks for the help!

since they're the same (8Ω each) they will split the power evenly, getting half (200w) each.

no. if each cab is 8Ω, then it's 8Ω.

run together, they create 4Ω total, which is what the amp "sees".

the two jacks in back of the amp are "parallel", as are the two jacks in the back of each cab. that means that no matter which way you hook them up (one cable to each cab, or jumped from one cab to the next), they'll create a 4Ω total load.

those two 8Ω cabs together is perfect for that amp, which gets full power when it sees a 4Ω load. i'd stack them, and switch off the horn on the bottom cab.

ok, Thanks!

Now one more question...(i think just one more)

Same head (Hartke HA4000 head. It is rated at 400 watts @ 4 ohms.)

Cabinet: Hartke 115XL rated at 200 watts @ 8 ohms.

Will that be ok to run it by itself off that amp and if so what would its power rating be?

Thanks again!!!

The 8 Ohm rating should be in the amp specs, but I'll guess between 250 and 300.
