Bad feedback, any ideas

Sign in to disble this ad
My band is lucky enough to have a pretty bitchin' place to practice. Huge building where we can leave our stuff out and not worry about people messing with it. The building is used as a youth center during the week and they have a small stage set up where we have all of are stuff. the stage is basically hollow plywood boxes, which I think might be causing some of the feedback we get any time the mics get loud enough to hear through the monitors. another problem is that the stage is small so the drums are causing some feedback as well. any ideas on how to cutback on some of the feedback?

You need to ring out the PA. Typically for a live sound situation you need to do this first for the mains and then for the monitors. In your situation it sounds like you only have monitors. Here is a good explanation of how to do this effectively: http://www.sweetwater.com/forums/arc...hp/t-4931.html

Another approach (and my personal fav) is to purchase a feedback management device. I have powered speakers and use a dbx Drive Rack PX. It is the bomb! Look, no feedback now!!

I don't have to play on the stage, its just easier because we can set everything up and no one will mess with our stuff. If we want to be off the stage, we have to set up and tear down every time we practice and i'm far to lazy for that!

I took a crack at ringing out the monitors and it seems to have helped quite a bit. at least for practices, this should keep everyone happy! Thanks!
