Bass v guitar EQ

I play bass in a band with 1 guitarist....he likes a middley sound and I like a lowmid/upperbass sound.....I tend to cut everything below 80 and everything over 1k too, so most of the sound I use and like is between 80 and 800....how can we eq to try and keep the sounds that we both like...I mean the sound in the mix , live...and still have enough separation between the instruments.

Hard to have your cake and eat it too.

Playing alone is one thing, together you have to compromise, or you both sound bad.

Frequency bleed is guarenteed to mush up a band's sound. Is your guitarist happy to compromise and work with to change his sound? If not you could be in for a difficult time. As long as you both understand each others role (you do the bass, he doesn't) in the band it should be ok.

The guitarist in my band refuses to change his sound and has a really heavy bottom end. Just so I can hear myself I have had to change my sound by cutting a lot of the bottom. In effect he is doing part of my job and causing a mush of noise. But as he says 'people come to see this band for the guitarist'.
