Best 18" Active Subwoofer for the Money?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am looking at buying an 18" active subwoofer. Due to lack of funds, I will be buying used and only one, initially. In your opinion, what should I be looking for when it comes to the best bang for the buck? My limit would be $1k, however, I would prefer to come in much, much lower...I just sprung for a Fender Road Worn Jazz and my wife is going to kill me if I don't start curbing my spending!!! She's beginning to think I'm crazy and I don't think she in completely wrong. Thanks in advance.

Yorkville

I use a pair of yorkville LS800P subs. They kill. These have been discontinued, replaced by the LS801P. Either would serve you well.

The Yorkville Unity series subs were getting a lot of love in another recent thread.

You can do better if you drop the active requirement.

Pair of 18" Peavey lo riders and a Crest CPX. Under a grand (used) all day long. Will sound fine and get loud.

Yorkville LS801P
Best powered sub in it's price range, also the biggest and heaviest.

Why does it have to be 18.. there are tons of good commercial grade (architect spec) manufacturers that you may not have heard of (db technologies, architectural acoustics etc)....

YOu may have to do more work to find them , but commonly will be tons cheaper than commercial band gear.
