Budget PA system

Hey guys. I'm a long time member who forgot his password, and I think this is my first post since I made a new account!

I seriously did a search for this and couldn't find much worth while Maybe I'm not a good searcher so if I'm not help me out.

I have a group together with an acoustic guitarist/singer and a drummer. The acoustic guitarist has a Fender Passport that he uses with a duo he has, but I don't think its going to cut it. I've never owned a PA before, but we all have our own mics and cables.

I'm kinda just looking for advice on getting a budget PA system. I'm looking at used stuff at stores and browsing the packages on musician friend. I basically just want to speakers we can put up on stands and project the vocals. Maybe mic the bass drum. Line in the acoustic probably.

Any advice? I know your first advice is going to be have a big budget!!!

What is your budget?

You're right that people here will suggest you spend lots. But if you're patient and do your research you can find some used deals around.

Which passport is it? I saw a cover band use a passport in a small bar and it sounded great. I was expecting it to be weak, but it sounded fine. How big are the clubs you plan to play?

However, if you are going to mic the bass drum, you are going to need a bigger rig. IMHO, if you mic the bass drum you have to have subs. We have tried without it and it didn't work.

i'm a fan of self powered stuff.
b-52 matrix systems- no experience, but they look like they might fit the bill.
the mackie srm 350's and 450's are pretty good
the fbt fatmaxx and qsc k series (k8, k10, k12) are great!
