I currently use a part hi-fi/part pro sound system to play tracks to which I play my bass. I want to build my system into a small home recording studio which can also serve as a small venue PA. Because of money, I can only do this in steps.
The first thing I want to do is add a small mixer (4, 8, or 10 channels) which has 3 band EQ and internal FX.
My current system:
desktop PC > USB out D/A converter > 1/8" RCAs into stereo Parasound preamp > RCA's into a massive 200w x 2 Aragon amp > bananas into 1/4" speaker cables > 2 x Yamaha BRM 12" monitors (mounted on poles) plus one 1250w 12" powered Sunfire sub (from sub-out from preamp).
I want to replace the Parasound preamp with a 3 band EQ mixer to get better tone control over the lousy MP3 tracks on my PC (my FLAC tracks are much better). Q: In order to use the 3 band EQ on the mixer (will probably be a 4 channel Alesis or an 8 channel Yamaha), can I plug the 1/8" RCA cables coming from the D/A converter into a pair of 1/4" line in jacks (in one of the mic in channels)?
Note that all of the mixers I've seen have 1/8" RCAs in, but they are not connected to the EQ.
