Ive got an Ibanez SR535 with a GK Bl600/glx4/10. ive been using the ne-1 (nathan east sig. eq box) and it's really given me some sweet options with my eq and cutting through, however it's hard to get the high crispness out of it. ive messed around with a couple eq set ups, taking out bass, adding treble, cutting bass and adding lower mids, lessen contour, etc. and i can't seem to get something that is clear with out taking out the deepness of the slap (i have the ne-1 set on deep with the freq. setting on about 4 or 5). ive smelled a crisp sound out of it before but that was before i used anything else and ive experimented with other pedals and preamps. ive just had the problem of giving that tone some balls. so, essentially, in a nutshell lol, any suggestions on tweaking so i can get some highs in without killing the depth of my slap tone so it doesn't sound so thoomy lol?

yea, but how old are they exactly? I have acidic perspiration in my hands, and can gunk up a set in 2 hours...

Yeah, "not that old" is not new. Strings die for me in about 2-3 days of practice at home, or 1 gig in a smoky bar.

they are about a month old. for me that isn't much my strings last pretty long. they don't have that new zingy feel but they certainly aren't dead either. im using rotosound swinbass medium gauge 5 strings set strings. i was using DR's before but i kept breaking them.

Yeah, month-old strings are dead.

Get some lighter gauge steel roundwounds. Something like the D'Addario Pro Steel .35-.95 set should be cheap and readily available. See if that gives you the brightness you're looking for.

Or if you really want to spend some money, switch to SWR amps. They've got a more open high-end sound (especially if you crank the Aural Enhance knob) than GK. GK can get you that Flea sound, but that's pretty much all it specializes in.

idk for me i usually play a set of strings for a month or 2 before they go dead. thats just been my personal experience. i still want the depth ive got but i just want a tad extra zing and i like medium/heavy gauge strings. ive i use d'add. strings will the heavier gauges still maintain the crispness to their tone but help retain the depth im adding?

It's not the brand, it's the gauge.

If you want to play medium or heavy strings that are a month old, you're not going to get as bright a sound as you want, period. I don't know how to make that more clear.
