To crackle, or not to crackle?

Hey all,
I recently done a festival gig where the bass amp was knackered so I had to use a di, but upon connecting to the box there was lots of crackling. We thought it might have been my lead so we changed to another lead only to have the same problem. He seemed to think it was my bass so I agreed to stay as still as I could throughout the set.

Afterwards I thought it may have been the battery for my active pick-ups, but upon plugging it into my Peavey with my original lead I experienced very little crackle at all. I personally suspect the battery, but would like a second opinion. Any thoughts/questions welcome!
