Cracklin' Rosie.......help please!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I'm looking for help finding a cure for a problem with a crackling sound I'm experiencing when playing live.

I play two basses at my church. A Roscoe SKB5 and a Pedulla MVP5. When I go live with the Pedulla, There is always an annoying crackling sound which emanates from the monitor as well as the house PA system. My sound man has been able to confirm that it is indeed coming from MY instrument. It only occurs when my bass guitars volume is ON.

I took the guitar to a shop here locally, and was told that it had a bad "blend" pot. I called Pedulla and ordered a new blend pot (which they make themselves) and had it shipped to me and installed. Still crackling.

I also know it is the Pedulla because my Roscoe does not create any type of electrical disturbance.

Any ideas/help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

Could be a wonky 1/4" jack problem. Cold solder, or just dirty.

What Greg said. Noise from a bad jack on the bass would indeed be dependant on the bass’s volume control.

The reason I mentioned this is because I had the same exact problem on my RIC. Turned out bending the jack lead towards the center just a tad was enough to fix it.
