Depends on the application, but a used Rane or Ashly will be a good bet generally.

I have a DBX in my PA rack and it does the job. There is someone here selling a used Rane for $100 though. If I didn't already have the DBX, I'd buy it.

Yep, dbx. My all-purpose workhorse is a 223. One terrific feature is its 40 Hz low cut filter, which has saved more bass bins than I care to count. Well built, tough, good status indicators, quiet (even the single-ended variant), clean, cheap money.
