Which RTA mic did you happen to pick up?

Can't recall the RTA mic make / model but it came with the package.

Re: DRPA's para EQ. The Q is variable on each band from 0.20 to 16.0 or something similar. Is this expressed in octaves or something different? Reason I'm asking is the notch (on the display) appears to narrow as the value increases.

From page 21 of the manual
---------------

Type
This parameter selects the PEQ type. Types include: 1. Bell-All parametrics are bell-shaped

2. HShelf - One shelf is High, while all others are bell 3. LShelf - One shelf is Low, while all

others are bell and 4. LHShelf - One shelf is High and one is Low, and the others are bell.

Band (1-3) Frequency 20Hz to 20kHz
Selects the frequency of the selected band of the parametric EQ.

Level (1-3) -12dB to 12dB
Sets the boost or cut level of the selected parametric EQ.

Q (1-3) 0.20 to 16 dB
Sets the Q or Bandwidth of the selected Parametric EQ.

Laptop at FOH, also makes a great walkin-out music player. And record right off the board with it all at the same time.:-)
This is very true. I'm just afraid that, if someone sees a laptop on the stage, they'll think I'm sequencing stuff, which I totally despise.

I get it now. The higher the Q, the narrower the band width.

I've added the above link to my Favorites....probably one of the better explanations I've read.

I traced my confusion back to my Rane PE 15 which expresses Q bandwidth in octaves (.03 - 1.5) unlike the DRPA. Here are two Q settings and the equivalent octave bandwidths (according to the pdf):

"Q" of 4 = 1/3 octave (typical GEQ slider?)

"Q" of 0.5 = 2 1/2 octaves (wiiiide notch?)

It's not 'Q bandwidth'. It's Q (for 'quality factor') or bandwidth, two different things.

See here:

In fact, if you are for real about doing live sound it wouldn't hurt to bookmark this and just read everything.

Noted and bookmarked. Thanks for the correction.

No, I am not "for real" when it comes to doing live sound but since I'm the only one of five with the ambition and resources (including TalkBass), the job is now mine and its a daunting task. I've learned there's no immediate gratification when dealing with sound reinforcement. I've had to assemble and operate a passable PA rig in fairly short-order and taken shortcuts in the process. Its getting better, though.
