DI

can anyone recommended a good (not too expensive) direct box for live applications. I am looking for something I can run to the board, as well as to my amp (some sort of bypass or thru?)

There are lots of threads on this but here is some info.

First thing ...Do you play active or passive basses?

Obviously active DI boxes are more expensive but if you play an active bass you can use a passive DI box.

I like Radial. They dont exactly fall into the cheap field but are excellent products.

If you want something cheap but usable Rolls makes a pretty fair pasive DI. You can get them new for $30.00

I run my Tech21 as you describe. I place it at the end of my pedal chain and run it to the board and my amp...that way if my amp goes goofy midsong (which happened once when my fan stopped working and my amp over-heated) I keep playing (which I did).

Radial or Audiopile.net. Both sound very good, and are affordable and very affordable respectively.

Use active for a passive instrument, passive for an active instrument.
