Difference between bass and guitar directions

Someone told me that bass guitar freqiencies expand in a cone like shape while guitar frequencies are more directional. Is there any truth to this?

Not as stated. It's not clear whether someone was referring to the behavior of the sound waves or to the speakers that produce them. Very low frequencies are omnidirectional, meaning that the placement and direction of your speakers in the room makes little difference, because no one can tell where they are coming from. High frequencies can be easily located, and they emerge from a speaker in a specific direction (conically, you might say), so speaker placement does matter. However, bass and guitar produce a wide overlapping range of frequencies. What's true placement-wise for a guitar cab is equally true for a bass cab, except you must also consider how your very low frequencies will sound in the room.
