I had given up on in ear monitors, but then realized it was because the systems we were using were just not very good. We bit the bullet and got the Sennheiser ew300IEM G2. Very pricey, but amazing sound. We have the transmitter rackmounted with our other sound reinforcement equipment.

The sound is crystal clear and the receiver is very sensitive. I set mine up so I have a monitor mix in the left ear and the sound man in my right ear. I play in a band that includes a lot of youngsters, so they look to me for cues, etc., so it helps for me to have contact with the outside world sometimes.

So, do you still have an onstage bass cabinet or is all the bass coming through the in-ears?

We have also the Sennheiser IEM 300 G2 Systems, and I never will go without it. Really amazing. Okay, it takes a little Time until you get use to it, if you go with big Stacks, and conventional Monitoring all the Years, but itīs worth the Time you invest.

As you can see below, we make us our seperate Monitor Rack, with all in it we need. We can save different Scenes @the Mixer because itīs digital. Our Drummer got a wired System from Fischer Amps, a Special Drum In Ear Amp wit a Butt Kicker under his Drumseat.

I think I can say, since we hear each other really good our playing and especially the "playing together" has really improved, and brought us far Steps forward.

Thats what our Drummer got....

If you get the G2 system with some Westone dual drivers (or triple drivers if you can afford them) you will never go back to floor wedges.
+1 I have the older G1 but it's brilliant. And I used the Westone UM2's for a long time, but then I discovered something even better for bass - Sennheiser CX-300's. Not only are that much better for bass guitar, they're a fifth the price of the Westones or similar.

For most gigs I still have the amp. That's because I use the IEM earphones as earplugs to block/reduce the stage SPL. The effects is the same as putting your fingers in your ears. Everything is quieter, but it's muffled. Then I bring up the IEM very gradually until all the missing frequencies appear again and clarity is restored. So I'm basically hearing a combination of Stage amps etc and IEM carefully balanced to reduce overall SPL but increase clarity.

Make sense?

Having said that, I've also done gigs with the IEM only (no amp) and the Sennhieser CX-300's are brilliant for this.

Nailed it.
My last band had our own dedicated soundguy as part of the band, and we had the Senn wireless systems, and I have a pair of custom molded dual-driver Westone UM2's, and couldn't have been happier.
I still had my cab for some thump on stage, but yeah- we use the exact same setup at church and Avioms, and it's such a joy.

Floor wedges are a nightmare in comparison, when you have a good IEM setup.
