EV subs...TL606DL, what do you know?

Hey all,

I've been putting my PA system together over the last year or so and I'm to the point of wanting to add subs. I was really leaning toward building a pair of BFM titan 39's, but a pair of EV TL606DL's came up on CL. They are the dual 15" version. I'm having a hard time finding anything about these subs because of the DL designation. I'm wondering if these are good for a rock band for 100-200 person venue's? I'd be using a Crown XLS602 to power them, one side for each.

I'm also wondering if there have been major improvements over the years, that I should not waist my time looking at these and I should go another direction. The price is quite good though, I wouldn't even get one quality sub for the price of this pair.

one might be really cool for your bass, but i wouldn't bother with them as PA subs.

Hi.

I have gigged a lot with their "single" bigger brothers TL505's and they do their job well enough.

Any of the TL twins (or singles for that matter ) are a major PITA to haul around though, so the weight/SPL ratio isn't nowhere near what the modern enclosures are capable of. The low price is on the TL designs side, so those old designs are used and reused over and over again.

That said, any of the BFM designs probably smoke any ancient TL design down to the ground.

Regards
Sam

I run fEarful 12 sub's and have put them under my Mackie tops and like 'em. Efficient and deep and relatively small.

fEarful 15 sub's are about the same size as 1x15 TL-606 boxes and they are tough to beat efficiency wise and for going low, really low. Very simple to build as well. The 3015LF is a great sub driver. For me, the 3015LF based boxes are too large to move. I also don't need the extra volume potential often and can rent it if necessary...
