Feedback using reverb

Sign in to disble this ad
So here we have another bassist trying to run sound dilemma. I've been pulling my hair out trying to get our vocals to sound warm and a little reverb.... wet.

We have a 24x4x2 channel board with six sends, 4 stereo returns and inserts on each channel, we want to use our tc electronics m350 dual reverb/chorus returned in stereo. I have tried using both a stereo channel strip and bringing the signal back on stereo aux returns.

What I get is nasty feedback if I add just a little effect. Seems that the toms, and snare are not affected by this. So that leads me to thinking that the monitors are getting reverb applied and causing the feedback.

I'm not sure what to do with this setup I know we can sound better if I could just dial it in.

Any tips are most certainly welcome. 2 nice gigs coming up tomorrow and saturday night.

Is the PA set up in stereo?
send vocals out a post fader aux
If PA is in stereo and reverb unit can be configured mono in / stereo out , return reverb L/R into 2 channels panned L/R

Set rev unit on 100% wet. Use faders to blend in reverb. Reduce treble on rev return channels if needed. Don't need a lot of LF in reverb return channels. Make sure all auxs are off on rev channels too. You can send the reverb to the monitor aux also this way.

If PA is set up in mono. No point in running rev in stereo. I use 120-130 ms delay instead of verb. Not as much ringing. Feedback on delay setting very low or off so you just get a quick slap with no echoes.

Any chance you are creating a feedback loop within the desk? Auxilary send turned up on the return channels?

Thanks for the tips!

PA is setup to run stereo, when i used a stereo channel strip as a return I zero the aux sends on that channel. So no there was no looping.

I did notice that there is a stereo aux return to sends 1 & 2 which are used as my monitor sends, they were set at unity so it does look like I was sending effect to the monitors.

Whatever solution you come up with, you should not be sending reverb to the monitors. Monitors are hard enough to get intelligible for the folks onstage without smearing the sound with effects.
