First Gig. Advice?!

Sign in to disble this ad
Im getting my first gig. On top of that, Im getting paid. Its at a wedding and I will be responsible for playing those popular wedding songs they play when the bride goes up the aile and when they both go down the aile. Itll be me all by myself playing solo bass. What should I do/get to be prepared?
What I have:
Fender Jbass 24
Crate amp that has a little 8 or 10" speaker. Gets fairly loud.
What I need:
A suit
Balls

#1 learn the Intro to the Warner Bro's Cartoon's , sounds better played on the high end of the neck.
#2 Make sure you rent a Yellow Tux with tails and a tall Top Hat
#3 wear a lot of gaudy costume jewelry
#4 Drink heavily an hour before the wedding
#5 Scalp me an invitation....... This I've got to see.

Your first ever gig is as a solo bassist? Well there's something you don't see every day.

Advice? Keep your cords out of the aisle. It would be a shame to have someone trip on them and unplug you. And it wouldn't make the wedding party real happy either, I suppose.

I also concur with #4 in the post above. It will be stressful enough doing this alone, but to do it alone and sober is too much to expect of anyone.

Oh yeah - and this tip is legit and important - you get paid before you play. Cash.

Learn the songs. Then practice them until you hate them.

I would have a drink if I was over the legal age limit
Really good advice though. Thanks

Play it 'til you hate it is right. Make sure you are able to look up while playing and follow the rest of the ceremony so that you don't go too long or short.

Very strange, indeed. Good luck with it though.
